Milliken Mills Lions Club

MMLC History

Milliken Mills Lions club started on Jan 2, 1998 by group of dedicated men and women of Indian Origin in Markham.  Till date Milliken Mills Lions club have participated in many charitable activities and have given donations organizations like Vision of Hope, Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Camp Kirk,  Stouffville Hospital, LCIF, Guiding dogs and many more.. Every year Milliken Mills Lions club (MMLC) participates in tree planting event organized by 10,000 Trees  for Rouge. The club started a new initiative called “SEVA” means Service where the members go to homeless shelters to feed underprivileged people with food and winter clothing.

Important projects accomplished till date:

  • June, 2000: As part of CELEBRATE MARKHAM, 2000 MMLC installed Lions Friendship Arch – as Millennium Project supported by Town of Markham (now City Markham). The article was published in Economist & SUN on front page on Tuesday June 13, 2000.
  • Since 2012: Fundraising Gala night are hosted every year to raise funds for charitable organizations like Canadian Diabetes Association, Stouffville, Hospital, Heart and Stroke Foundation and many more.
  • OCTOBER, 2009: Milliken Mills Lions jointly with Social Services Network, organized First Lions 5K Walk For Mental Health on October, 2009 at Markham civic Centre. Co-Chair – Gobind Sharma and SSN Co-Chair- Naushad Hirji; Patron: Mayor Frank Scarpitti
  • May 2010 : Milliken Mills Lions Sponsored a new lions club – Box Grove Lions in Markham.
